There’s big news for Nigerian music. D’banj and younger brother Kay Switch have signed a Pan-African distribution deal with Sony Music Entertainment.

D’banj who signed with Def Jam Records through a deal with Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D Music last year now joins Sony’s RCA Africa label while Kayswitch’s deal included a multi-album, worldwide exclusive contract. DB Records will now have their records distributed by RCA.

RCA is home to top artistes like Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Mario, Monica, and Pitbull. D’banj’s DB Records fields Kay Switch, producers J Sleek, Deevee as well as himself.

We’ve always admired his talent and to be able to assist with bringing D’Banj’s music to millions of fans, established and new, across the continent is an honour for us’, says Managing Director of Sony Music Entertainment Sean Watson.

Just this year, D’banj and former partner Don Jazzy parted ways after dissolving the very popular Mo’Hits Records. Don Jazzy has also gone on to set up his own record label Mavin Records.

‘It’s always been D’banj’s dream to see something this monumental take place in Africa. It’s a successful business plan that will help Nigerian music and will be a gateway for other Nigerian artistes. Let the games begin’, Bankulli Seun, D’banj’s manager told US.
